One hour until leaving time and then a blissful 5-day holiday awaits.
Have given up trying to convince myself I fancy the boy on the other side of the office.
My heart is refusing to budge on the matter, so I'm just going to let the useless thing be.
Why it prefers to be unappreciated and broken I have no idea, but it is stubborn like me, and won't come back from where it insists on lingering.
So I will concentrate on my lovely career and go to karaoke tonight w/the academic development posse and fill my days with culture and fashion and distraction and maybe then it will all go away.
but then again it still makes me happy sometimes.
I know better, but as my co-worker, S, says -- I'm the "girl with the butterflies" and even when common sense says otherwise I can't help but think everything will come up roses.
Friday night in the office. It's officially past time to leave, but most everyone
is still here, tip-tapping at their computers. It's been a productive day/week/month.
I've discovered several new talents: quiz-making, pronunciation guru, American-english expert,
all-around web goddess, and queen of cute graphics.
And office life continues to be full of lovely little surprises.
Like the CEO secretly leaving chocolate on our desks (with a cryptic picture note)
and then denying he had anything to do w/it.
As a means of distracting myself from other things, I'm indulging in a little cross-department flirting.
My heart's not really in it, but it's amusing to pretend to feel fluttery when we make eye-contact over the sea of desks.
He is one of those people who is good on paper, but in reality there is no zing.
But anyway...next week is the start of Golden Week, a short little holiday,
and I'll be having a relaxing time avec ma mere who is flying in next Wednesday.
Tomorrow is movie night with little A (we are seeing Lost in Translation), who I am on
speaking terms with again.
Then I have a cartload of posters to draw for J's farewell party,
and then my weekend will be gone without any time for it to register.
Clearly I should not still be here at 8:30 on a Friday night so I will bugger off now.

I realize I have been MIA for a good few weeks, but this really couldn't be helped.
My new job has taken over my life (in a good way) and weekends seem to fly by with no time for repose.
I am in LOVE with my work -- it couldn't be more perfect for me.
I get to do creative writing, graphic design, and learn more html all at the same time.
Plus I get to work with a lovely antipodean team who introduce me to the yummylicious cafes
and restaurants in this gorgeous neighborhood,
and who drag me to karaoke and force me to sing.
And let's not forget the dress code (or lack thereof).
I'm in jeans today (accessorized with sexy heels, of course), and a pink ballet sweater.
I am tempted to burn my black suit in celebration, but that might be tempting fate.
I've never worked in an 'office' before; it's quite exciting to be surrounded by all these busy people.
Our team (Academic Development) is sandwiched between the cool Marketing girls
and the chatty phone operaters.
Anyway I think I've been sitting at this PC too long, and it's SMAP night so I really should get home already.
