So the 10-year anniversary of ye olde blog came and went unheralded last March (I was too busy moving to Paris to notice), but in the spirit of better late than never, I thought I'd host a wee celebration now. As much as I'd like to have you all over for tea and eclairs, plane tickets are expensive this time of year (when are they not?), so instead we're having:
The Prize: a bead necklace from my color story collection + a Parisian postcard + delectable French bonbons + any other sparkly notions i can fit in the envelope.
To Enter: leave a comment telling me what your favorite book is, and if you're so inclined, what you love about it.
Details: open internationally. A random drawing will be held and the winner announced and notified at the end of September.
This isn't really a promotional sort of giveaway, so if you'd like to tweet/facebook/blog/skywrite about it, that's lovely and appreciated but not required. Mostly I'm hoping that you'll stop by and say hello -- I'd love to hear from old friends and get to know new ones even better.
Now, to properly commemorate Lilie Green's 10th anniversary, it is only fitting I do a top 10 list. So, after pouring through the archives, I present to you:
- 10. the sad tale of how i tried to file my taxes in japan
- 9. the hardest $100 i ever earned
- 8. a day in the life of an English teacher
- 7. waxing poetic about the soundtrack of life
- 6. my 7th anniversary post (still applicable)
- 5. super-saturated photo-logue of tokyo
- 4. epic NYC post is epic
- 3. tooth-achingly frou frou, PINK, and alarmingly preoccupied with cake
- 2. firsts
- 1. and from all the way back in 2001, my stint as a kindergarten teacher in the japanese countryside
*a special mention for the sense and swoon-ability post, which is by far the most popular, and continues to receive a bajillion hits every month (that Jane Austen, hogging all my traffic)
Thanks for reading, everyone! I hope you'll continue to support my photo/travel/design/personal/can't-make-up-its-mind blog for several more years to come :)

I'm a relative newcomer to the blog, but an absolute devotee! I LOVE LOVE LOVE your food photos. There are several prints of which I would love to purchase a copy from you, should you ever be so inclined! I will certainly hang around for many years to come.
My favorite book is Exodus by Leon Uris. It introduced me to the modern history of Israel, taught me that Israel is a modern country and not one big archaeological dig, and opened my heart to the place before I visited, which ultimately led to me moving there, meeting my husband, and many other wonderful things. So, hey, thanks, Leon!
Oh Lilie, congratulations, and wow, 10 years. Would love to meet for tea and eclaires, actually we are not so far away, so maybe someday !
So, my favorite book is Hopscotch by Julio Cortazar (Rayuela in its original spanish). I love this book because it is so different. Because it is a love story, it is about magic in the world, it is also about loneliness and sadness, it is so many things, and it is a game too. And you are going to love that one huge part of the story takes part in Paris.
I know this sounds so 'expected' but I would have to say Pride and Prejudice by Miss Jane Austen. Every time I read it, I notice something I hadn't noticed before -- nuances in the text. Austen was such a terrific student of human nature.
BTW, your food photos make my mouth water!
Ooh... 10 years, congratulations! Evidently hits that mark next May. I'm so glad to see you're still at it!
Favorite book: this is hard, because most of what I read is really obscure. But, if I cast back, I'd say William Faulkner's The Sound and The Fury. Mostly because it was the first book I remember that connected me to my sense of being Southern. (though, not in good ways.) There was something in his rhythms that resonated.
In more recent years, I'd say "Jonah" as in, the book of in Hebrew texts. I know, right? But I spent a year in that text in graduate school so, it still sings to me.
Love, love your jewelry and crossing my fingers on this, because I'm living in a hotel and could use a taste of something exotic!
Hello. Congrats on the blog milestone! My current favorite fiction book is The Hunger Games. I enjoy reading wilderness survival books!

Wow! Happy Blogaversary!!! I adore your posts and each and every one is like my "reading dessert" when I catch up on my list of blogs to read. I love hearing about your international adventures! How I wish that I COULD come to Paris and visit you, complete with tea and eclairs!
I have two books that share my #1 book slot, and that is my Bible (precious and essential to me!) and yes, Jane's "Pride and Prejudice". I'm a long time Austenophile and that's the one I keep re-reading again and again. :)
Thank you for hosting such a lovely give-away!
See? I have my answer and then you make me think of Jane... I do love Pride & Prejudice and Persuasion, but I'm going to stand by my first answer. "Blue Jelly" by Debby Bull. I have given away many, many copies of this book. I can pick it up at any time and open to any chapter. Love. It. "Love Lost and the Lessons of Canning" - I just love this book. Reading it helps me remember to breathe. That is an important lesson. :-)
Happy, happy, happy ten years! My favorite novel is Francesca Lia Block's Weetzie Bat. I've read it a few times a year ever since I was a teenager. Weetzie is my book soulmate.
Thank you for doing such a lovely giveaway, and THANK YOU for an even lovelier blog! :)
Ten years is CRAZY. There's still a part of me that thinks, "Wait, the Internet isn't that old, is it?" Nuts.
My favorite, favorite, faaaavorite book of all time is The Count of Monte Cristo. I'm a total sucker for adventure and revenge, so this was perfect. Read it in high school and a few dozen times since. My paperback is a very tired little (but not really little) paperback.
Such a lovely giveaway!
Also? I loved revisiting your archived posts. My favorite (FIRSTS) was even listed in your fancy list! So totally enjoyed the others, as well! Your posts are always so wonderful to experience, and I say experience instead of read because your pictures are AMAZING. Totally fuels my wanderlust.
Wow, congratulations! I'm so glad you blog and I get to visit you here!
My favourite book, that's a tougho! There are books that have helped me tremendously on my life journey, like "The Courage to Heal", "The Right to Write" and "The Artist's Way". Then there's my all time favourite children's book which I read like a hundred times as a kid: "Das doppelte Lottchen" by Erich Kästner ("Lisa and Lottie" in English??). And I need my prayer book and a collection of quotations from the holy writings on a daily basis. I also really dig the Harry Potter Series :)
Happy (belated) Blogaversy! Looking forward to the next 10+ years!
Lilie, I am new to your blog but am already in love with the photos of places and food. They tell stories without words. Now about a favorite book--I almost never have a favorite anything--there's too much great stuff! But it often comes down to the classics. I love Jane Austen's Emma (although I definitely give props to P&P). The story's pace is perfect, the human characterizations are priceless and quite profound, but also there's Emma herself. She is so perfectly imperfect--on the surface she is rich, pretty, confident, in charge of her life and liking it. She is always sure she is right. But she is usually wrong, and that makes her human. I have to like her because she admits to herself that she's wrong at the end about almost everything. How many of us do that? She learns, she adapts.
Wow, 10 years? how did you manage to maintain your sanity through all this time? Got to reveal the secret!
So, Happy anniversary! :)
Hum... my favorite book... I guess I have to say Little Women, by Louise May Alcott. Probably it's not the best book I've ever read, but is the one I can read over and over again and never get tired. Those four girls make me feel young again, make me believe in true relations, close family ties, and the joy of live among the nature. There's no words to describe it. it just makes me feel good. :)
Congratulations! And what a fun giveaway. It's so hard to pick just one, but a top 10 favorite of mine is.... In the Garden of Iden by Kage Baker. Time traveling "cyborgs" (retro-fitted orphans, rescued from certain death way back in the past), 16th century Spain and England, a company in the future that preserves the past (or does it??). A great read and the first book in a series! :)
Hmm, ten years. That's quite a long time don't you think? My favorite book is Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Ahh, the romance. Let's list why I love it.
1. St. Clair
2. St. Clair
3. St. Clair
4. Etienne
5. Etienne
6. Anna
7. Anna
8. Friends!
9. Paris!!!
10. Anna and Etienne Forever:)
Congratulations! Ten years, oh my! I just started my fifth year on my blog and thought that was pretty cool, but ten! Wow.
Favorite books – so many but The Eight is one I have read over and over.
So happy for all your new adventures.
